Cade's 10 Month Update - His First Steps!

cade loves to look outside and point at birds. here he is, delighted and clapping his hands.

Here is cade making yet another trip up to the top of the stairs, and Apu reminding him to be careful.

Chris' birthday at Old Market Pub

Here is Cade on Chris' birthday. I got up early to fix my boys breakfast. It was a hit!

This is my absolute favorite. Cade is great at giving kisses and hugs!

here at Yuki's, my favorite sushi restaurant. this is moments before he kicked over my water. Whoops!

Snowshoing with our community group. cade loved being outside and so did we!

Love love love my Ergo baby carrier

Very busy. Loves his little robe.

Loves looking for birds outside our window in the morning. And squirrels. He also likes to point at cars, and dogs. He says "drr" when he sees a dog.

Today Cade took his first steps! It all happened so fast, I didn't have time to grab my video camera. He is getting so much more confident, pulling himself up, and cruising around while barely holding onto anything. He did it again a few minutes later, then realized that he wasn't holding onto anything and slowly brought it down to a squat, and crawled the rest of the way to me. My good friend Wendy was over for coffee and was there to witness this event with me. He was standing in the living room, holding a napkin and smiling at Wendy. I called him over to me...no incentive...no cheese, no ice cream, nothing. He took two steps, and then 3 small quick steps, and ended with a huge grin on his face and a total look of amazement in his eyes. He was so cute and proud.

Besides being more mobile, he's also becoming more vocal. His Dada, Mama, Hi, More, Baba, (water), Puff, are the words he has down so far.

He is still extremely lovey - he will kiss on command, and hug you too.

One of the funniest things is that he is starting to imitate us. The best example of this is when Chris burrows his head into Cade's tummy to make him laugh...then Chris burrowed his head into my tummy to wake me up with Cade, and Cade helped Chris by burrowing his head like Daddy. Wish I'd caught that on camera! When Cade wants to wake me up in the morning, he touches my face with both of his little hands and plants big wet kisses on my lips, and burrows into my neck, and says MAMA-MAMA!! how can i wake up in anything but an awesome mood with that sort of wake up call?!

On the food front, he's eating just about everything now. It makes it so much easier to go out to eat with him since he can eat off our plates most times. He prefers to feed himself and that is definitely a win-win. Since he's moving all around and hates his pack and play I'm SUPER thankful for his high chair so I can clean up the kitchen, or run and use the bathroom, etc.

We gave him cookies and cream blizzard ice cream from DQ the other day and he was loving that. On the top of his fave food list are still bananas, cheese, yogurt, peas (yay, he's over the anti-green phase!), grapes, strawberries, pears, sweet potatos, quinoa, chicken, turkey. He actually doesn't mind spicy foods to my surprise. He even had a few of my pickled beets. I haven't tried seafood yet...that's next. Looking forward to sushi train with him...actually....for his 2 birthday, I might do a Train theme, and we'll have sushi train for the adults, what do you think? He doesn't know this, but I have the next 5 birthday party themes already planned for him (and his future little sister, and no, I am not pregant yet, but i am planning ahead. Because I am a NUT. A crazy coo-coo for theme parties NUT.

One funny story and I will close with some pictures.... So Cade has been crawling up the stairs for some time now. He is big into climbing and loves to be at the tallest point of any place we go. i.e. He likes when he is way up in the air and Mom and Dad are sitting on the couch - very very smug and satisfied.

So anyway, usually when Cade gets to the top of the stairs, we cheer him on with a "yay Cade, you DID it" and start to clap. Well, he goes up the stairs 2-3 dozen times a day. This one time, I was answering a work email on my blackberry and when Cade got to the top of the stair case and turned around, he looked at me, and looked at Daddy, and then started clapping for HIMSELF! with a concerned look on his face, like "why is my fan base not cheering?" Then we both started whooping it up, and he was all smiles, and started bee bopping and bouncing on the top step with a huge satisfied grin on his face, laughing and kicking his little squatty legs back and forth. Ummm, it was hilarious.

The other thing he does sometimes if I'm ignoring him and talking to a friend, he will hug and kiss me, and talk very loudly until I stop and look at him ...and then he just giggles and smiles at me. What can I say...the kid loves attention. Apple does not fall far!

Cade - you keep cracking us up. Thanks for being the funnest and the cuddliest. I hope you let us hold you for a few more months but I have a feeling that you are going to be walking around more regularly this month and won't want to hang out in our arms for long. Oh well.. you are getting pretty heavy anyway! Apu is stuffing you every chance she gets and you love it. They say that Rice makes you STRONG! And it does! You're very very strong. Keep up the great work little man!

Love,
Mommy and Daddy

Staycation 2009 at the Hotel VP!

A couple of weekends ago our good friends Mike and Beka Van Pelt hosted a fabulous staycation weekend at their home in Irvington. 2 other couples - the Palmquists, and the Soaseys, made for a merry bunch. Lots of laughter and good times. We all shipped our babes off to the grandparents house and enjoyed some adult time with some fun friends. I have to say, the accomodations at the Hotel VP were outstanding. Chris and I scored the master suite and enjoyed the heated floors in the master bath, the peep-through fireplace from the bedroom to the bathroom. Beka welcomed all of us with a little welcome bag for our room. She is the hostess with the mostest, hand down.

We went to a bouldering gym, crammed into a photo booth for pics, and did some chocolate tasting at Cacao. It was a great time and great memories.

Welcome to the Hotel VP

At the bouldering gym.

We took the max and walked over to Cacao for a delicious chocolate flight and other treats.

Here with our drinking chocolate. My favorite was the dark choc with chili peppers.
